Tip toe through the Tulips
Last week for family home evening we went with Ryan's parents to walk around the Tulip festival here in Ottawa and to give Paige her first taste of part of her heritage. The tulips were given to Ottawa as a thank you by the Dutch royal family after WW2 for looking after them when the Nazi's invaded. Every spring thousands and thousands of bulbs are planted. Paige is part Dutch so what better way to begin her introduction into the mixed world of her family history! (I see our trip to England and visit to London as her first introduction to her British history!)
This one has become my favourite mummy daughter picture!

Oh, I love the history of the tulip festival.
Priness Juliana actually gave birth to Princess Margriet in 1943 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.
Here's the quote from Wiki:
"The maternity ward was declared to be officially a temporary part of international territory, so that she would be born in no country and would inherit only her Dutch citizenship from her mother."
So, in 1945 the Dutch Royal Family sent 100 000 tulip bulbs to say thanks then in 1946, "Juliana sent another 20,500 bulbs requesting that a display be created for the hospital, and promised to send 10,000 more bulbs each year."
