Today Paige fell asleep while I was on the phone with my mum. If she falls asleep I've started putting her in her cot (crib). As I was walking up the stairs I could smell something funny. As I get to her room (there is no door - since getting the carpet changed it doesn't fit anymore) Corbit slinks out. He has done his business in there, and this is no small bathroom break. He has pooped all over the room and peed. He is fully house trained and has access to the whole house and he purposely went into her room. He's also not sick. Oh and did I mention this wasn't the first time??? He did the same thing the night before and it has happened on previous occasions too. Never anywhere else in the house, only in her room. Ryan called me right after I has finished cleaning it all up and I was really angry with the dog. I explained what had happened to Ryan and told him we need to talk and make a decision about what was going to happen with him. To my surprise Ryan told me he had to go, I didn't think he'd agree with what I thought until I'd shared my argument and I hadn't even gotten to that yet! He told me he'd already been thinking about it the night before and set me to work doing some research.
Having to give Corbit up is going to be tough, but Paige comes first. He's not dealing well with the lack of attention, he's no longer the only one around and right now it's just him making big messes in her room, but if this was to get worse I wouldn't want to risk anything happening to Paige. It can't be a good thing health wise as well, what happens when she starts crawling and if he does that?!!?
So Corbit's days with us are numbered. Ryan's boss knows someone who's husband has recently died and is lonely but has lots of grandkids and a big back garden. That would be the perfect type of home. He'll be the lady's best friend and get tonnes of attention and have lots of people to play with. If Paige was already big enough to play with Corbit this situation may have worked out differently but he's not going to get the same kind of attention he was used to anytime soon. We thought we had done so well making sure he was used to being touched so when we had a baby he wouldn't be aggressive, I guess we never realised that he would show that he was upset in this way. Finding Corbit a good home is the fairest thing we can do for him too. Hopefully it works out with this lady otherwise the search for a good home continues....

that must be so hard for you, i know how much you adore corbit.
Yuck poor you for having to clean that up. I am sorry that you cant keep him that would be a hard choice but I would do the same thing...
That is something that I fear in the future when Jason and I start a family. How will our dog react? My cousin just gave her dog to her mom becuase he freaks out with jelousy everytime she picks up her baby. (like barking and jumping at her) I know that this is common for the dog to be depressed and jelous and you can do research and get some valuable tips how to work it out... None the less though I know you will do what you feel you should. I wouldn't want to have that mess near my baby either. Good luck!!!
I am hoping we don't have to get rid of Marley when we have a family. We have decided that she will be an outside dog visiting inside the house only occasionally. So far so good.
That's too bad. I guess Corbit was really trying to mark his territory in Paige's room. Hope his new home works out for him.
Oh, so sad!! Dogs can be so weird with new babies.
